About

I am a man who is living the mobile dream – in more ways than one. I am a technologist, executive & entrepreneur, working in the arena of the mobile web, and living around the world. (This year: an island off Belize.)

Most recently I was the CTO at dotMobi. Previously I’ve worked for startups, consultancies and a telecoms vendor. I start, grow, & lead teams by example; I speak at industry events; I write on technology topics; and I can hold my own in board meetings.

Software satisfies my creative side. I use Python, Javascript, PHP, Ruby, C#, Java… and after that, they all start to look the same. Django, WordPress, Drupal, Rails, nginx & node.js are my server technologies of choice. MySQL and SQL Server databases like me: I love them back when I get them to draw beautiful pictures, blazingly fast.

Welcome to my life online, and please take a look around. And if you like things a little more formal, here is my resumé.

  2. Ajaxian » Will Native Mobile Applications Wither Away?:

[...] James Pearce has started a fascinating series, called WhitherApps.com, trying to rewrite the BBC iPhone application and other native mobile apps using HTML5. From the kickoff blog post: WhitherApps is a bandwagon-busting experiment. I believe there are far too many native client apps which could have been far better written as mobile web apps. What we’re going to try and do is take a few examples, apply a little reverse-engineering, and rewrite them, warts and all, with web technologies. [...]
